End to the blockade against Cuba is demanded in Chile

Havana, July 28 (RHC) During an act called for the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada barracks, Chilean political leaders demanded that the United States lift the blockade against Cuba, which causes serious damage to that people.

Senator Claudia Pascual, of the Chilean Communist Party, declared on behalf of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba that this unilateral policy imposed by a powerful country on a smaller one represents a clear violation of human rights.

Hundreds of people attended last night the cultural political activity carried out in the Isidora Zegers room, of the Faculty of Art of the University of Chile.

The senator denounced that the siege maintained for more than 60 years restricts the island's access to financing, goods and services and creates obstacles to development, and pointed out that despite this siege, the Caribbean nation created during the pandemic its own vaccines to combat the Covid-19.

Several legislators, friends of the Revolution, representatives of political and social organizations, the Society of Writers, graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine and the diplomatic corps accredited in Santiago de Chile attended the evening.

The Cuban ambassador in Chile, Mercedes Vicente, recalled the ties of friendship that unite the two countries and thanked the expressions of solidarity expressed at the ceremony for the anniversary of the Moncada Assault, an event that marked the beginning of the fight for Cuba’s definitive independence.

The diplomat explained the importance of continuing to fight against the blockade today, a unilateral act that qualifies as a crime of genocide for depriving a people of what is necessary to live.

She recalled that during the administration of former US President Donald Trump, this siege was intensified with more than 240 measures, to which the inclusion of the island on the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism is added.

The actress and deputy Ana María Gazmuri, from the Humanist Action Party, sent greetings to Cuba and called for strengthening unity in the face of the advance of the ultra-right .

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Communist Party, Lautaro Carmona, recalled that the Moncada feat, led by Fidel Castro, taught that despite adversity it is possible to continue fighting for the benefit of the peoples.

The activity was enlivened by the Popular Choir of the Recoleta commune, directed by Francisco Villa, the singer Nora Blanco and other groups. (Source: PL)
