Havana, August 23 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel paid tribute this Wednesday at Freedom Park, in South Africa, to the more than two thousand Cubans who gave their lives for the liberation of Africa.

After the tribute to the combatants, an act of solidarity with Cuba took place with the participation of some 800 people, among them, friends of the Revolution, collaborators and Cuban residents.

"In the name of the fallen for the freedom and sovereignty of Africa, South Africa and Cuba, for peace and harmony let us fight for our friendship to become indestructible and for future generations of South Africans and Cubans to be proud of the bonds we bequeathed them," the Cuban president declared at the exchange.

During the meeting, several South African organizations expressed their support for the Caribbean nation and admiration for the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara (1928-1967) and Army General Raul Castro Ruz.

Those present denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

On this day, Díaz-Canel held a meeting with leaders of the tripartite alliance of the government, formed by the African National Congress, the Communist Party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions, to whom he ratified his gratitude for the support to Cuba.

Accompanying the head of state on his tour of Africa were Bruno Rodríguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs; José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health; Emilio Lozada García, head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, and other officials.
