Havana, Aug 26 (RHC) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero called this Saturday not to lower the guard in the prevention and control of dengue, on the occasion of the World Day against this disease.

In his X account, the head of government urged to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and go to the health services when symptoms appear.

Cuban scientists are working on a vaccine candidate against dengue, which has a safe technological platform and is based on recombinant proteins. In addition, in the course of 2023, a new rapid diagnosis system for viral disease should be available, in which specialists from the Immunoassay Center work.

Dengue causes flu-like symptoms such as fever, headaches, muscle aches, chills, nausea and vomiting, and can sometimes progress to a life-threatening condition called severe or dengue hemorrhagic fever.

It is a widespread infection in tropical areas of the planet and lately it is developing increasingly in urban areas, becoming a serious public health problem.

More than half of the world's population is at risk of contracting the disease and each year there are more than 390 million cases in the world, of which 500,000 correspond to dengue hemorrhagic fever, which causes some 25,000 deaths. (Source: PL)
