Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- Activist Manolo de los Santos, leader of The People's Forum project, told Prensa Latina in New York that Cuba has more support due to the complex context generated by the economic measures against it.

"Our struggles are closely linked to those of the Cuban people, what we are fighting for here, which is a fairer system, is precisely what that country has been fighting for for six decades," he said.

He said that the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, this month, represents a great moment for those in solidarity with the largest island of the Antilles because it will allow them to interact directly with representatives of the Cuban people.

"In addition, this event is ideal to talk about the country and its social system to a much wider audience than usual," said de los Santos.

"On this occasion we will insist that Cuba should not be on the list of those who sponsor terrorism, it is a campaign we are launching for the million signatures and we will take advantage from September to November to talk about that issue," he emphasized.

In the opinion of the leader of The People's Forum project, most Americans know that Cuba does not pose a threat to national security.

"We wanted to take to the streets to prove it, not only in the United States but all over the world. It is a campaign where we are providing coordination, social movements, unions, but also figures and personalities of the country and the world who have the common sense to know that Cuba sponsors peace, health or education," he stressed.

He added that the celebration of the G-77 and China Summit in Havana and the country's presidency at the head of the organization represents another moment where politics becomes palpable and interesting for young people.

"This event confirms that Cuba is the only nation capable of generating an alternative proposal of what should be a fair international economic order, which includes the poor in the United States as well," concluded de los Santos.
