Havana, September 27 (RHC) -- The Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales Ojeda highlighted on Wednesday the 63 years of work and commitment of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the largest mass organization in the country.

Speaking on the first day of its 10th Congress, the party leader assured that there is not a single battle of the Revolution in which the CDRs have not stepped forward and "led the fight".

He highlighted the role they played during the Covid-19 pandemic together with the Ministry of Public Health, and stressed that without their help it would not have been possible to successfully carry out the vaccination process.

Morales Ojeda underlined that the CDRs were essential in the recent elections held in the Caribbean nation and the process of popular consultations prior to the referendum on the Family Code.

He informed that Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel is closely following the 10th Congress of the CDRs and tomorrow he will participate in its closing session.

The Secretary of Organization of the PCC praised the deep, broad and transforming process that preceded the event, which he described as a historic event for the organization.

He recalled that due to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, the island faces a complex situation, aggravated by Covid-19.   Morales Ojeda affirmed that despite this scenario, the Caribbean nation continues to resist thanks to the firmness of the Cuban people and the commitment of organizations such as the CDR.

The meeting of the CDRs analyzes the problems of the organization with a renovating approach and at the same time projects actions that contribute to the country in the current context.

One day after the closing of the event, the annual meeting of the Continental Front of Communal Organizations will take place, with the participation of activists from 12 countries.
