Irina Kiviko, vice president of Crimea, noted the growing interest in Cuba and its struggle against the US blockade

Havana, Oct 3 (RHC) Social activists from Crimea will develop joint projects in education and culture with universities and research centers in Cuba, according to the vice president of that peninsula, Irina Kiviko.

The also head of the Crimean regional branch of the Russian Society of Friendship with Cuba, added that interest in the Caribbean nation and solidarity with the struggle of the Cuban people against the US blockade are gaining more and more followers in Crimea.

Kiviko pointed out the increase in the number of publications and events of social importance, and the holding of scientific lectures, readings, and exhibitions with archival documents and photographs.

She noted that this year in Crimea, for the first time, the Russian-Cuban Friendship Alley was installed in the Artek resort and a meeting was held with the residents of that Black Sea town, who were told about the origins of the friendship between Cuba and Russia.

On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the birth of Ernesto Che Guevara, together with the Federal University of Crimea, the competition for scientific, informative and journalistic works “Cuba: yesterday, today, tomorrow” was organized. The event attracted students and scientists from all over the peninsula.

During the year, round tables, exhibitions of archival and photographic documents, photographic exhibitions were held on the occasion of Cosmonautics Day in memory of the first president of the USSR-Cuba Friendship Society, Yuri Gagarin, and in tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro.

The first readings were also held between Crimea and Cuba, dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the outstanding Cuban political, social and cultural figure: José Martí.

Kiviko believes that meetings with scientists, holding joint conferences, round tables and the participation of the media are the basis on which the work of social activists is built.

The vice president also said that members of the board of directors of the Russian Orthodox Church laid flowers at the monument to Fidel Castro in Moscow, which was solemnly inaugurated last year by the Presidents of Russia and Cuba, Vladimir Putin and Miguel Díaz-Canel, respectively.
