Havana, October 23 (RHC) -- A delegation of the National Assembly of People's Power, headed by the Vice President of this body, Ana Maria Mari Machado, is attending the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), from October 23 to 27, in Luanda, capital of the Republic of Angola.
The event organized by the Parliament of this African nation, jointly with the IPU, will focus its debates on the general theme: "Parliamentary action for peace, justice and solid institutions".
Among the highlights of this international event will be the election by IPU member parliaments of the 31st President of the organization, a responsibility for which four candidates -all African women parliamentarians- have been nominated so far to replace the current incumbent Duarte Pacheco, from Portugal.
In addition, according to the IPU, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is expected to be incorporated as the 180th Parliament member of this organization.
During these days, all the governing bodies of the IPU will meet, including its Executive Committee, its Governing Council, four thematic Standing Committees, the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, the Forum of Young Parliamentarians and the Human Rights Committee of Parliamentarians. The Second World Parliamentary Summit on Combating Terrorism and Violent Extremism will also take place, and several resolutions will be adopted on the most pressing issues of the current international scenario.
The Cuban delegation is also composed of deputies Rolando González Patricio, Cristina Luna Morales, Arelys Santana Bello and Orisell Richards Martínez, presidents of the parliamentary committees on International Relations, Health and Sports, Attention to Youth, Children and Women's Equal Rights, and assistant to the Ninth World Conference of Young Parliamentarians recently held in Vietnam, respectively.
Jesús Rafael Mora González, Director of International Relations of the Auxiliary Offices of the National Assembly and Secretary of the Cuban Group at the IPU, will also be present.
The representation of the largest of the Antilles will hold several bilateral meetings and will take part in the sessions of the forum. Upon his arrival in Luanda, he participated in the Meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) of the IPU. (Source: ACN).
