Cuba and Spain carry out exchange on communications

 

Havana, February 6 (RHC) Cuba and Spain today completed an exchange on communications, in which issues of interest in cooperation and investments were discussed.

In a videoconference with Spanish businessmen residing in the island, the First Deputy Minister of Communications, Wilfredo González Vidal, offered details on the domains in which there is potential to deepen existing or new types of collaboration ties.

Presented by the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Cuban Embassy in Spain, René Capote, and in the presence of the head of the diplomatic mission, Marcelino Medina, González explained that there are possibilities of developing joint models with Spain.

He mentioned among the strengths of the Caribbean island the formation of human capital, which offers a space in an area in which there is great competitiveness.

In this regard, he referred to the boost in Big Data, Blockchain, and in general of the Cuban software industry and the growing role of more than 260 private Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Information Technologies (IT) activities.

The minister also highlighted the prominence of the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) of Havana and its Industrial Park, and the existence of a similar one in the western province of Matanzas.

Accompanied by the Vice Minister of Communications Ernesto Rodríguez Hernández and directors of companies and MSMEs belonging to the sector, González pointed out that in Cuba there are currently 7.6 million people who use mobile phones and 80 percent of the population accesses the Internet.

He elaborated on the 2024 Computer Fair and Convention that will take place in Havana from March 18 to 22, with the participation so far confirmed of 20 countries and more than 800 delegates.

The theoretical event will take place at the Convention Center and the Fair at the Pabexpo fairgrounds, and the presence of representatives from our region and Asia, as well as  from India, is expected.

During the exchange by videoconference between the table at the Ministry of Communications of the largest of the Antilles and the theater of the Cuban Embassy in Madrid, different businessmen expressed their interest and concerns regarding cooperation and investments in the sphere.

Artificial Intelligence, linked platforms of medical services such as the case presented by Softel in the future with Teleconsultation and Telediagnosis programs, were some of the issues highlighted at the meeting. (Source: PL)
