Cuban university extends ties in Europe

Havana, February 16 (RHC) The University of Camagüey, Cuba, seeks to expand its academic ties in Europe, with the signing of an agreement with the Center for International Cooperation in Research Agronomic for development (CIRAD), France.

Magalie Jannoyer, Antilles-Guyana Regional Director, represented the Parisian institution; while rector Santiago Lajes Choy and director of International Relations Yailé Caballero Mota, were present for the Cuban house of higher studies.

According to the university’s official Facebook page, the agreement this framework will facilitate the planning and execution of joint projects and research, as well as exchanges and training of researchers from both institutions.

The University is also focused on Belgium through an exchange with a delegation from the Free University of Brussels.

For the Cuban center, working together with its Belgian counterparts is nothing new since they even strengthened after Covid-19.

After five years of collaboration, the VLIR Project sponsored by the Council of Flemish Universities, focuses on the fields of Pharmaceuticals, Biomedicine and Veterinary Sciences in a link that is strengthened with the University of Camagüey.

Enrique Molina, coordinator of said project on the Cuban side, assured last year that this institution has received 300 thousand euros for the development of laboratories, research and an entire infrastructure beyond the technological.

The academic centers of the European regions have in turn been a pillar in scientific collaboration in pursuit of guaranteeing food security in Cuba. Proof of this in recent years has been the livestock project sponsored by the University of Camagüey and the Flemish Interuniversity Council-University Cooperation for Development. (Source: PL)
