Cuba and the EU agree on actions against the United States blockade

Havana, April 26 (RHC) Representatives of Cuba and the European Union agreed on practical actions regarding the extraterritorial application of the US blockade.

During the 4th round of dialogues between Cuba and the EU on Unilateral Coercive Measures, held on April 24 in Brussels, the parties shared updated information on the damage caused by the blockade.

The meeting addressed the intensification of the US policy, which affects the Cuban people, as well as the citizens and economic and commercial interests of the EU, due to its extraterritorial nature. The delegations also confirmed the impact of Cuba's inclusion in the Washington’s list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism.

They discussed practical actions aimed at protecting legitimate relations between both parties and shared their experience with US judicial proceedings brought under the Helms-Burton Act.

The representatives of Cuba and the EU expressed their interest in continuing to jointly identify mechanisms and frameworks that contribute to promoting trade, investments and cooperation. They also expressed their willingness to continue promoting exchanges and protect the legitimate interests of operators on both sides.

They agreed to hold specific exchanges on cooperation actions between the European Union and Cuba, which contribute to the diversification and economic updating, as well as the development of the island.

The delegations also determined to maintain a fluid dialogue on unilateral coercive measures, including in multilateral forums, based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, legality and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.

In addition, they decided to continue jointly exploring options, with the possible participation of interested European Union Member States, to promote the effective insertion of Cuba in the Global Gateway investment program.
