69th Meeting of UN Tourism for the Americas begins in Cuba

Havana, April 30 (RHC) The 69th meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM) begins today in Varadero as a space to debate the trends and perspectives of international tourism in the area.

The regional director for the Americas, Gustavo Santos, will present the Panorama report of the trends and perspectives of international tourism in the region.

According to the regional organization, the Americas recovered 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels in 2023 with strong intraregional demand, increased connectivity, and a solid US outbound market that benefited destinations in the Caribbean and Central America in particular.

However, it faces difficulties and uncertainties generated by global and regional crises as well as challenges such as employment, security or health, which hinder progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Despite these global challenges, the area has unique opportunities such as the transition towards clean energy and sustainability thanks to its natural wealth, diversity and strategic position.

Another element up for debate at the CAM meeting will be the need to align educational development initiatives given the gap that exists in Latin America between the skills available in the labor market and those required by employers. (Source: PL)
