Havana, July 16 (RHC)-- Deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP, Parliament) continued today to analyze the main problems in Cuba, with emphasis on issues related to the economic sector and social current affairs.
Gathered in Permanent Commissions, on the eve of the beginning of the Third Ordinary Period of Sessions of its X Legislature, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, the parliamentarians will evaluate the draft policy for the law of the socialist state enterprise, which should be debated soon.
Also, lay judges will be elected to the People's Supreme Court, the government of Villa Clara, a province in the center of the country, will render accounts, and a group of deputies will take seats vacant for various reasons.
Likewise, there will be a selection process for the members of the National Electoral Commission, an entity instituted to organize, direct and supervise elections, popular consultations, plebiscites and referendums in the country.
This Monday, after several governmental tours and exchanges of opinions in labor collectives and communities, 11 Commissions discussed matters of public interest, including a draft opinion on the management of the Ministry of Domestic Trade.
The development of the decentralization of competences to the municipalities, the relevance of the socialist state enterprise as a fundamental economic actor and the alternatives to guarantee the family food basket, were among the issues discussed.
Likewise, the Program for the Advancement of Women, the systems to guarantee social assistance, the state of the Food Industry and the implementation of the Integral Policy for Children, Adolescents and Youth were also discussed.
The steps to modify the energy matrix, the operation of pharmacies, the promotion of safe and responsible sexuality among young people, and the control and execution of the State Budget also stood out in the legislators' agenda.
Special attention deserved the information on the economic performance in the first semester of 2024 and the measures adopted with the purpose of avoiding and facing crimes, illegalities and corruption manifestations that harm the economic performance of the Antillean nation.
The Commissions, made up of about 70 percent of the deputies, work throughout the year, apart from the two sessions of Parliament.
The day before, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and the head of Parliament, Esteban Lazo, among other authorities, participated in the commissions.
The celebration of the Third Ordinary Period of Sessions of the 10th Legislature of the ANPP has as its cardinal motive the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Local Bodies of People's Power (Source: Prensa Latina).
