Latin Americans travel to Cuba to pay tribute to Fidel

Havana, July 31 (RHC) The 29th Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Volunteer Work and Solidarity with Cuba will travel to the island to celebrate the 98th anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on August 13 and to develop a program of visits starting next Thursday.

The welcoming ceremony will be held at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp (CIJAM), in Caimito, Artemisa, where the 60 members of the contingent from Argentina, El Salvador, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Venezuela will be staying.

The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) informed that the celebration in homage to Fidel will begin on Monday 12 with a conference on his thought and legacy; followed by a Solidarity Meeting that will give way in the evening to a great celebration to welcome August 13, date that the brigadistas will dedicate during the day to a special day of volunteer work.

Beforehand, the activists' program will take them to the Fidel Castro Center and to conferences on the current situation of the country marked by the genocidal blockade imposed by the United States which hinders the economy and complicates the daily life of the population.

The brigadists will participate in meetings with representatives of the mass organizations and will visit historical sites, production and assistance centers and community projects in tours around Havana, Artemisa, Pinar del Río and Villa Clara, to return on August 14.

The contingent includes, from the Dominican Republic, the 30th edition of the Máximo Gómez Brigade and members of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign, which celebrates its 34th anniversary, as well as Julieta Herrera Valera, from the Youth Commission of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba (Source: ACN)
