Havana, September 21 (RHC) The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) of Cuba reported on the signing of the island's National Programmatic Framework for the period 2024-2030 with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The text was signed on September 18 in Vienna, Austria, by the first vice minister of Citma José Fidel Santana and the deputy director of the IAEA and head of the Department of Technical Cooperation Hua Liu, in the context of the 68th General Conference of the international organization.

This is the reference framework for medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA, which identifies the priority areas to which the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed in order to support the national development objectives.

Cuba, a Member State of the IAEA since 1957, has identified six priority areas in its National Programmatic Framework 2024-2030: food and agriculture, health and nutrition, water and environment, energy and industry, radiation technologies and nuclear safety, and protection against radiation.

Cooperation between the Caribbean island and the international organization has materialized in the application of nuclear technologies in vital areas such as human health, agriculture and environmental conservation.

For its part, Cuba supports the IAEA's regional cooperation program through capacity building and participation in expert missions to other nations, particularly in Central America and the Caribbean. (Source: Prensa Latina)
