Santo Domingo, November 17 (RHC) -– The Dominican Navy has reported the detention of 20 persons, including two Cubans, who tried to illegally travel to Puerto Rico.

Although no names are given, the report says that the first arrested persons were five Haitians, two Cubans and one Dominican who were traveling without legal documents on a rural bus on the coastal road of the Nisibon municipality, in the province of Seibo, according to a report from Prensa Latina news agency.

Another group was later arrested, which included eight Dominicans and five Haitians, who had gathered at a site on the coast of the Cañitas municipality, in Samana province.

The Dominican navy periodically arrests groups of persons who try to illegally make it to Puerto Rico by using rafts, most of which sink in the dangerous Mona Passage.
