Santiago de Chile, December 25 (RHC-PL) -- Several prominent personalities in Chile, led by President Michelle Bachelet, and the media, have highlighted the new diplomatic chapter between Cuba and the United States and in general have welcomed the resumption of diplomatic relations. The development received an enthusiastic welcome from Bachelet and an optimistic statement from the Chilean Foreign Ministry.
The electronic newspaper Crónica Digital (Digital Chronicle) was the first to give a rendition of the news after the statements by Presidents Raul Castro and Barack Obama last December 17th.
In an article by Marcel Garces, Digital Chronicle noted that this is was triumph of realism and dignity. The commentary concluded that the times ahead will be complex. "Cuba will, as it always has, do what it must, but we must not lower our guard. Solidarity, support, must remain the international slogan of our people, to defend the sovereignty, independence, self-determination of Cuba."
Other Chilean media also echoed the new historical chapter between the Caribbean island nation and its giant northern neighbor from different angles.
The Publimetro newspaper devoted a series of articles written by its special envoy to Havana, Karina Ines Cruz, on the daily lives of Cubans and the foreseeable perspectives with the normalization of ties with Washington.
