Havana, January 31 (RHC-PL) -- Cuba maintains an active epidemiological system mainly focused on the Ebola virus, as part of the strategy developed in the country to prevent and fight the illness.

Doctor Lorenzo Somarriba, Director of Inspections of the Public Health System (Minsap) told Prensa Latina that through this strategy there is a 24-hour monitoring and assessment of the national and international situation by a group of experts, including doctors, epidemiologists, geographers and specialists in computer sciences, who also deal with epidemiological-related issues in the entire region.

He said the country is bracing for facing likely future threats of other viral infections that may emerge around the world. The health official referred to the outstanding work carried out by Cuban specialists sent to the three nations hit by Ebola; Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, as well as the impact it has had on the health of the population.

Doctor Somarriba announced that the second international course on Ebola will be held in Cuba in February.
