Havana, July 9 (RHC)-- Representatives of the Colombian government and FARC, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, continue peace negotiations in Havana, currently focused on the issue of war victims. In the context of the talks, the rebel group announced a unilateral ceasefire for one month beginning on Monday, July 20th, as part of efforts to reduce the intensity of the armed conflict. The head negotiator for the rebels, Ivan Marquez, said that with this initiative, the FARC seeks to create favorable conditions for progress in the realization of bilateral and definitive ceasefire conditions. Meanwhile, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said through his account on Twitter that his government appreciates the decision of the rebel group and called for expediting the peacekeeping efforts in Havana, but did not mention specific measures his administration was ready to take in order to reduce the intensity of the internal war in Colombia.
