Havana, October 9 (RHC)-- Dr. Pablo Duran, Regional Advisor on Perinatal Health with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), praised Cuba’s results in public health, particularly the country's mother-child program, which he described as an example for the entire region.

In statements to ACN news agency, the PAHO official noted that the Cuban health system guarantees universal access to quality health care services for its people, from preconception to age-related diseases.

Dr. Duran, an expert with the Latin American Center for Perinatology, Women and Reproductive Health in Montevideo, Uruguay, attended the Congress of Nursing Professionals, which held sessions this week here in Havana.

The PAHO official noted that Cuba registers the lowest infant mortality rate in all of Latin America and the Caribbean -- 4.2 per every one thousand live births in 2014. He praised Cuba's cooperation with other countries of the region and the world toward improving health indicators and the quality of life of the people.
