Tampa, October 14 (RHC)-- The City Historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, is currently visiting the U.S. city of Tampa at the invitation of a local organization.
According to Progreso Semanal website, Leal was invited by the Alliance for a Responsible Policy (Alianza para una Politica Responsable) and met with Democratic congress woman for Tampa's 14th  District Kathy Castor.

The U.S. legislator is known for her activism in favor of the re-establishment of relations between Cuba and the United States and the lifting of the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba.

Castor said she was honored to receive Doctor Leal and praised his work at the Historian's Office of Havana, which she personally witnessed during a previous stay in the Cuban capital in 2013.

Eusebio Leal gave a speech at the statue raised Tampa in honor of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at a park named after him.  He also visited the headquarters of the La Gaceta newspaper, the only weekly in the United States that publishes articles in Spanish, English and Italian, and whose founder, Victoriano Manteiga was active collaborator of the struggle for Cuban independence in the 19th century.

According to Progreso Semanal website, Leal's stay in Tampa has two purposes.  One, his contact with important areas of Cuban history during the fight against Spanish colonial rule and, two, related to the current relations between Washington and Havana.

Cuba and the United States re-established diplomatic relations July 20th as the starting point towards a process to normalize bilateral links, in which the major obstacle is the long-standing U.S. commercial, financial and economic blockade of the Caribbean nation.
