Havana, October 15 (RHC)-- Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz Canel inaugurated Wednesday a new headquarters of the Havana University's Confucius Institute, devoted to the teaching of Chinese language, culture and history.

On hand was Chinese ambassador in Cuba Zhang Tuo, who stressed that learning about China's history, traditions and culture is essential to rally understand ongoing transformations in today's world.

He added that promoting that knowledge is precisely the mission of several Confucius Institutes and other related entities, scattered all over the world, which count on the full support of the Chinese government. The Havana University's Confucius Institute will enroll nearly one thousand Cuban students every year.

Institute Director Arsenio Alemán said that the facility is equipped with all the necessary teaching, reference and bibliographic materials, including audio labs. He added that workers involved in joint Cuba-China projects will be granted priority access to the institute.
