Havana, November 14 (RHC)-- The Executive Director of the United Nations AIDS Program (UNAIDS) Michel Sidibé has praised Cuba's achievements in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS, which currently affects 35 million people worldwide.
Sidibé, who is also Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, praised the fact that Cuba was the first country in the world that eliminated vertical transmission from mother to child.
The UN official is currently here in Cuba on a three-day official visit, during which he has already met with Cuban Health Minister Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, and other authorities in the sector.
The distinguished visitor has also toured several primary health care
centers, as well as the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute and the National Center for Sexual Education (CENESEX).
Michel Sidibé called Cuba's results highly relevant and stressed that the Caribbean state is an example to follow in achieving a universal health approach that puts people at the center of attention.
