Geneva, July 2 (RHC)-- The United Nations Council on Human Rights has adopted a declaration on the right to peace sponsored by Cuba.

A communique issued by the Cuban permanent mission in Geneva, where the human rights council is currently holding its 32nd period of sessions, said the importance of the text lies in the fact that it is the first time ever that the human rights to peace is actually recognized.

Cuba's permanent representative before the Geneva-based UN agencies Anayansi Rodríguez recalled recent words by Cuban President Raúl Castro, who said: “Peace is not a utopia. It is a legitimate right of every human being and of all peoples. It is a fundamental condition for the enjoyment of all human rights, particularly the supreme right to life.”
