Cuban Health Institute to Train Doctors on Ebola Treatment

Havana, November 28 (RHC) The Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine in Havana confirms that it will train more than a dozen doctors and specialists from across the country in a course on techniques, behaviors and procedures to address and treat the Ebola virus.

Speaking to reporters, Pedro Kouri Biosafety chief Dr. Roberto González explained the purpose of the training and the importance of the preparation to be received by the participants over the course of a week.

“In return, many of them are going to be facilitators, that is they will then repeat the course in other areas around the country and some others outside the country. The program is the same as that of the international course that ended two weeks ago and has basically the same training targets. The key elements that have to do with the Ebola disease, and especially with the protection of health workers that are in some way involved in this activity,” González stated.

In similar terms, epidemiologist Barbara Villafruera expressed she is aware of the role they should play in their respective groups. “We want to take back to our health staff all the of knowledge related to the prevention of this disease, so that our national health care system is prepared for anything,” Villafruera added.

Nurse Víctor Ibañez expressed his commitment to collaborate with the spreading of this useful course no matter where he is. “We are ready to give our knowledge and efforts wherever necessary,” Ibañez pointed out.
