Shanghai Symphony musicians will join their Cuban counterparts in a unique concert conducted by Chinese maestro Cao Peng at Havana’s National Theater.
The concert, scheduled for Sunday, February 2nd, is part of a cultural exchange sponsored by the embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Cuban Music Institute.
The program consists of pieces from the Asian Giant’s and world repertoires, including the overtures The Force of Destiny by Giuseppe Verdi, and of William Tell by Gioachino Rossini, as well as Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Opus 67, by Ludwig van Beethoven. The Chinese repertoire consists of the string elegy The Moon’s Reflection on Spring Waters by Abing-Wu, Good News from Beijing, by Zeng-Ma.
The Shanghai Symphony is made up of young virtuoso musicians and has been successfully holding concerts in different parts of the world. Maestro Cao Peng has directed many symphony orchestras in his country, received many awards, is a teacher and participates as a jury member in famous international music competitions.
