Havana, December 1 (RHC) -- Cuban and foreign visitors will be able to participate in a contest launched by the Spanish Embassy’s Cultural Department to Cuba, consisting of a photo next to the self-portrait of painter Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) on display at the Cuban National Fine Art Museum.  Those interested should post the selfie with the 69-year-old Goya on the social networks and accompany the publication with the tag #selfieconGoya before December 15.

The painting, on display since November 14 on the occasion of the visit to Cuba by the King and Queen of Spain, Felipe and Letizia, is a loan from Spain’s Prado Museum to the island’s cultural institution. The original work of art that celebrates the 500 years of Havana and the bicentennial of the Prado Museum is being successfully exhibited for a month in Havana for those who wish to be photographed.

Spanish cultural attaché in Cuba, Jorge Peralta, says that this is not the first time that the piece travels to the America’s, since in the last 20 years it has been to a more than a dozen exhibitions on the continent. The self-portrait was made in 1815 by the renowned Spanish painter, who’s been described as the last classic and the first modern artist, whose work marked a turning point between history and contemporaneity.
