The exhibition ‘Mi amiga Alicia,’ by Cuban artist Nelson Domínguez, was inaugurated over the weekend in central Santa Clara province.
On display at the art gallery of the Association of Artists and Writers (UNEAC) in the province, the traveling exhibition pays homage to Cuban prima ballerina assoluta, Alicia Alonso on occasion of her 100th birthday anniversary on December 21st this year.
The gallery treasures oil paintings, drawings, engravings, bronze sculptures and installations, among other techniques.
‘Mi amiga Alicia’ comprises 45 pieces dedicated to the legendary ballet dancer and choreographer.
In statements to the press, the artist said Alicia considered him a friend. He added that he got inspiration from Alicia’s unique performances of world ballet classics like Giselle, Carmen and others.
The traveling exhibition will remain open to the public in Santa Clara province for one month, up until September.
A National Fine Arts Prize laureate, Nelson Domínguez has exhibited his works in prestigious art galleries around the world, most notably in Japan, United States, The Netherlands, Mexico, Guatemala, among others.
