Havana, May 21 (RHC)-- The tune ‘Quiero verte otra vez’ premiered in April 2020 by Alexander Abreu y Havana D´ Primera amidst COVID-19, was also the title of a Gala Performance Thursday, organized by Cuba’s Unicornio label of Producciones Abdala record company to celebrate, along with artists from its vast catalog, awards garnered at this year’s 24th edition of Cubadisco –the top event of the Cuban music industry.
The gala began at 9:00 pm Cuban time on Canal Clave of Cuban television. It marked also the launching of a new TV program called Abdala Session, aimed at visualizing the everyday creative work of musicians, young and established artists alike, musicologists and technicians inside the Abdala studios.
In statements to Cuban News Agency, musical producer Dayron Ortega said from now on the public will gain access to memorable, spontaneous events that take place while recording a new album.
Featured artists include Alexander Abreu, singing the tune "Razones de Sobra", young pianist and singer Ernesto Casanova, singing "Dados al aire", followed by renowned singer Ivette Cepeda performing a classic by singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez "Ángel para un final", accompanied by young pianist Rodrigo García.
Other musicians, from the vast catalog of Abdala label who performed at the gala included Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor, El Noro and G Rowell, a young exponent of urban music, nominated to this year’s Cubadisco Awards for his album TBT.
With artistic direction by Efraín Sabás, the Gala Performance is also an invitation to meet again once the epidemiological situation in Cuba and around the world improves. It is also a call on Cuban music lovers to protect themselves and their loved ones by strictly following the recommendations of health authorities.
The Gala served also to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Producciones Abdala. Founded on May 25th, 1998, its mission is to accompany the work of young and established musicians and bequeath a vast musical legacy to future generations.
