Alejo Carpentier

Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- Three emblematic works by Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier were recently reissued in Mandarin language in Shanghai, China by People´s Literature Publishing House.

The works in question are 'El Reino de este mundo', 'El Siglo de las luces' and 'Guerra del tiempo y otros relatos'.

Works by Carpentier were first published in Mandarin language 36 years ago. The publishing house said that the reissue is part of a campaign seeking to promote the work of Latin American writers in the Asian country, including also Gabriel García Márquez and Jorge Luis Borges. Next year, Chinese readers will be given the chance to enjoy two other novels by Carpentier 'Los pasos perdidos' and 'La ciudad de las columnas'.

People´s Literature Publishing House announced its plan to publish 50 works on Latin American history, cultures and traditions over a ten-year period. The aim is to promote a better knowledge, understanding and rapprochement among both regions.
