Havana, Oct. 3 (RHC)-- Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated Silvio Rodríguez’s successful return to Spanish stages after a five-year absence. The concert that the author of ‘Ojalá’ and ‘el unicornio azul’ gave over the weekend at WiZink Center, in Madrid, was attended by nearly eight thousand people.
‘Silvio’s concert in Madrid was the triumph of poetry, music, dignity and coherence,’ Diaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account.
The photos of the concert posted on social networks clearly show that it was a resounding success, despite messages inciting hatred and calls by some over the internet to boycott the presentation.
During the concert, Silvio, accompanied by Trovarroco Trío, performed classics from his vast repertoire, as well as tracks from his latest album ‘Para la espera’. Silvio dedicated the two-hour concert to his friend, Spanish musician and filmmaker, the late Luis Eduardo Aute.
Previously, Silvio performed on September 26th in the city of Rivas Vaciamadrid, also in Madrid, at the closing of celebrations on the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of Spain.
The famed trova musician announced a few days ago that the proceeds from the two concerts would be donated to Medicuba-España for the purchase of medicines for the Cuban healthcare system.
Medicuba-España is an NGO, which together with 53 other Spanish entities make up the Solidarity with Cuba Movement in the EU nation.
