Filin Festival
Havana, June 21 (RHC)-- The 2nd edition of the Bohemia Mía filin festival began this Tuesday June 21st with a gala at Entre Dos cultural center in the Havana municipality of Centro Habana.
According to the event director, singer-songwriter Osdalgia Lesmes, the festival, which runs through June 23rd, highlights the value of the music style within Cuba’s musical heritage.
The program includes concerts, as well as colloquiums, book presentations about the origin and evolution of Cuban romantic song.
Other venues include BuleBar 66, Arte Habana and the Bar Restaurant El Monseñor.
Under the slogan ‘El filin está en ti’ (Filin is in you), this second edition of the Festival is dedicated to great creators, composers, performers and instrumentalists who contributed to the development of filin, among them, the late José Antonio Méndez, César Portillo de la Luz and Ángel Díaz.
The lineup includes, among others, Osdalgia Lesmes herself, Ivet Cepeda, Héctor Téllez, Raquel Hernández, Emilia Morales and Mundito González.
Filin emerged in Cuba in the late 1940s. It mixes trova and romantic song.
Osdalgia commented their intention to extend the festival beyond the Cuban capital, to other venues across the country, even make it an international festival.
