Baseball5 champions
Havana, November 14 (JIT)-- The Cuban team that won the First Baseball5 World Cup, which concluded on Saturday in Mexico City, arrived on Sunday in Havana with their duty fulfilled.
The delegation was received at José Martí International Airport by Osvaldo Vento Montiller and Raúl Fornés Valenciano, president and first vice-president of INDER, respectively.
Also present were Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, head of the Cuban Baseball Federation, and Gisleydi Sosa Cabrera, director of international relations of Inder.
In a telephone call, the Cuban government's deputy prime minister, Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-lella, expressed to the athletes the pride of the people for the performance shown on Mexican soil in a sport born in the Island's neighborhoods.
In his welcoming remarks, Vento congratulated the champions for their success and urged them to continue preparing for new endeavors. He made special reference to the possibility of this modality becoming Olympic in the not too distant future.
The Cuban team won the title after defeating its Japanese counterpart in the final with scores of 9x1 and 6x2.
