Havana, June 2 (RHC) - The Cuban men's volleyball team debuted with a 3-0 win over Argentina in a friendly match played in Buenos Aires, ahead of the upcoming National League (VNL).
The power in the attack, an aggressive service and an accurate defense were determinant in the Cuban victory with partials of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-22.
In the individual order, the outstanding players for Nicolás Vives' students were Jesús Herrera (18 points and 71 percent effectiveness in attack) and Miguel Angel López, the "flying" Cuban from the Brazilian Sada Cruzeiro (9 points).
Also contributing to the victory were captain Osniel Mergarejo (8), Javier Concepción (5), José Massó and passer Lyván Taboada, both with 4, according to the specialized portal Cubansp1ke.
Argentina's opposite Bruno Lima stood out for the South Americans with 15 units.
Cuba opened and played almost the whole match with López and captain Osniel Mergarejo, as assistants, Jesús Herrera (opposite), Javier Concepción and José Massó (center backs), Liván Taboaba (passer) and Yonder García (libero), all signed in foreign leagues.
This Friday will be the second match between Cuba and Argentina, the latter Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo-2020.
Cuba will debut in the VNL next Tuesday 6 against Canada, in a match to be played in Ottawa.
