Robiel Yankiel Sol
Havana, July 13 (RHC) - Cuba's Robiel Yankiel Sol won the first title for Cuba at the World Parathletics Championships in Paris, France, on Thursday.
Yankiel, Paralympic champion in Tokyo-2020 and world record holder, won in the T47 category with 7.63m, a record for the competition.
He was followed by Roderick Tousend of the United States (7.31) and Serbian Matijasevic (7.05).
With his victory, the Cuban won his ticket to next year's Paralympic Games, also in the French capital.
Cuban star sprinter Omara Durand will compete this Thursday in the final of the 400 meters (m), category T12 (profound visual impairment), after dominating her heat of the oval lap with a time of 54.98 seconds.
Durand, universal record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 m, has also won eight gold medals in Paralympic Games together with his guide Yuniol Kindelán.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Durand won gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 m T12, as he did in Rio de Janeiro 2016, while in London 2012 he won two titles.
In that event, the first five places in each event guarantee direct tickets to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
