Havana, Nov 13 (JIT) - The Netherlands team “ran amok” and eliminated Puerto Rico 20x8 in Group A of the Premier 12 baseball tournament held in two stadiums in Mexico.
At the Parque Coloso del Pacífico, Didi Gregorio, Jonathan Schoop, and Hendrik Clementina combined for 10 hits, drove in 12 runs, and scored 11.
The Dutchmen set records for the event in the runs scored (20) and hits (24) departments.
But there's more. Both teams combined for 28 strikeouts and 35 singles, the most in the competition's history.
With this thrashing, the Europeans have two wins and one loss, equaling Venezuela at the top of the standings.
In the other game of Tuesday's group A, at the Pan American Stadium in Guadalajara, the United States beat Panama 9x3, supported by the bat of fourth baseman and designated player Ryan Ward, who hit 5-2, with a home run and five RBIs.
After these results in Group A, behind the Tulips and Venezuelans (2-1), are the United States and Panama (2-2), followed by Puerto Rico and Mexico (1-2).
