Havana, Feb 11 (RHC) - The Cuban national team debuted with a 3-1 comeback victory over St. Kitts and Nevis in Group F of the CONCACAF U-17 Tournament 2025.
In a match played in Costa Rica, the Cuban team lacked unity during the first half, perhaps the confidence against an opponent, apparently less strong, caused some relaxation in the team.
They also missed clear chances, which they regretted in the 43rd minute when Franklyn Mitchan scored a goal that broke the script before going into the locker room for the break.
The halftime talk resolved little more than the changes made by coach Sandro Sevillano, who, faced with the inoperability of his team in the first minutes of the second half, recomposed the scheme.
He left a line of three at the back and reinforced the attack with two strikers. At that point, his team had the ball and the clearest opportunities, but the goal was missing.
Lázaro Díaz entered the field and scored in the 73rd minute when the players of the Greater Antilles were getting impatient.
The equalizer reaffirmed the thesis that a comeback was possible and gave back confidence to the Cuban hosts, so much so that Diaz himself scored a brace seven minutes later.
With the rival's spirits down, a third came in added time, scored by the all-rounder Cristian Bravo, and decreed the definitive 3-1.
