Washington, November 7 (RHC)-- The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, has cleared Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton after a renewed probe into her use of private e-mail server as the U.S. secretary of state.

FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to the Republican-controlled Congress on Sunday to make the announcement.  Earlier, Comey had sent a letter, notifying the lawmakers of newly discovered e-mails pertinent to the case.

Following an earlier probe, the FBI chief refused to recommend any charges against the Democratic flag-bearer.  In the new letter, Comey said that the new e-mails have not changed the situation and his previous recommendation still holds.

"The FBI investigative team has been working around the clock to process and review a large volume of e-mails from a device obtained in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation," Comey wrote in the letter.  "During that process, we reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state."

Comey's first letter caused turmoil in the U.S. 2016 presidential election and harmed Clinton's lead over GOP nominee Donald Trump.  The Clinton campaign welcomed the decision with communications director Jennifer Palmieri saying: "We are glad the matter is resolved."

The Trump campaign has been using the case as a means to attack the former first lady, arguing that she is corrupt.  The new development comes as the Tuesday presidential election approaches.
