Buenos Aires, November 17 (RHC)-- A year after the disappearance of the submarine ARA San Juan, the Argentine Ministry of Defense and the Navy confirmed in the early hours of Saturday that the US ship operator company Ocean Infinity has found its wreckage.
The company informed that the submarine was at the seabed 800 meters deep and that it confirmed its identity with a remote observation vehicle, at a location 500 kilometers from the city of Comodoro Rivadavia.
Sources from the Argentine defense ministry believe it will be very difficult to remove the ship from the area, according to the Clarín newspaper. However, a hypothetical rescue operation would begin as soon as the first technical reports of the discovery are made, taking the city of Chubut as an operational base.
The ARA San Juan submarine disappeared 430km off the Argentine coast on 15 November 2017.
