Miami, August 28 (RHC)-- Dorian strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday as it blew through Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and heads toward the U.S. Southeast coast, where it is scheduled to arrive by the weekend.
Dorian's exact path remains uncertain, but the National Hurricane Center said the threat of hurricane conditions in Florida is increasing: The latest track has Dorian as a Category 3 major hurricane with winds at 115 mph off the east coast of Florida on Sunday into Monday morning.
The storm was battering portions of Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands on Wednesday as it passed just over and near the islands, the weather service said.
Both sets of Virgin Islands as well as Vieques and Culebra were under hurricane warnings while Puerto Rico stayed under hurricane watch.
