La Paz, January 1 (RHC)-- The Bolivian Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Benjamín Blanco, informed that this Saturday 1,965,600 doses of the Moderna vaccine arrived in the country to continue the campaign against COVID-19.

"There are 1,965,600 doses that are arriving to our country. They are doses that are going to be used as third doses. There are 16 pallets that have arrived, and now the distribution begins," detailed Blanco.

The shipment arrived at Jorge Wilstermann International Airport, in Cochabamba (center), as a donation from Germany and Spain as part of the Covax mechanism, a global access fund for the equitable distribution of vaccines against the coronavirus.

Part of the doses will stay in Cochabamba and the rest will be distributed throughout the country, Blanco said.  Of the total, 1,492,800 doses are from Spain and 472,800 from Germany.

The official highlighted that, with this new batch, Bolivia exceeds 22.5 million doses for the population that can be vaccinated, over 5 years of age, and to administer booster doses.  "We have the totality of the vaccines required for the Bolivian people, for a vaccinable population of 10.028 million Bolivians," he said.

Likewise, he called on the different regional authorities to reinforce the plans to continue applying the vaccines and contain the Covid-19 infections throughout the territory.
