Bolivia earmarks budget for food security

La Paz, February 2 (RHC)-- The Bolivian government reported Monday that it has allocated 254 million dollars in programs related to the production of tubers, livestock, beekeeping, cotton, fisheries and Andean grains to enhance food security.

As part of these programs, on December 1, 2021, the Government launched another decree for more than 1,779 million Bolivianos (equivalent to about US$ 260 million) which is already being executed, as stated by the Minister of Rural Development and Lands, Remmy González.  He also pointed out that thanks to the six percent economic growth, it was possible to guarantee food security and strengthen production in the agricultural sector.

Likewise, the high official indicated that through the tubers and roots plan, the production of commercial and industrial potatoes in Bolivia should grow from 7.5 tons per hectare to 17.8 in 2025.

"Our president Luis Arce very wisely has decided to generate policies on this magnitude so that this amount of population that lives in rural areas and is dedicated to food production has the right technology, the right seed," stressed the portfolio representative.

The Bolivian minister also commented on the benefits of Supreme Decree 4560 which establishes to invest until 2025 the equivalent of 63 million dollars in cattle raising, 16 million in vegetables; eight in pineapple production and around 20 million in banana production.Bolivian government budget for food security.
