Ramallah, June 13 (RHC)-- Israeli forces have carried out raids in several areas in the West Bank, detaining 14 Palestinians in a wide-ranging arrest campaign across the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Palestinian Information Center reported that the raids took place on Sunday night and continued in the early hours of Monday.  According to the report, the Israeli forces arrested two brothers, Ezz and Jihad al-Aqrae, after they ransacked their home in Askar refugee camp, east of Nablus City.

Local sources said resistance fighters opened fire on the Israeli troops who stormed the camp.

To the south of Nablus, Israeli forces conducted raids in the village of Osrin and Beita Town.  A young man identified as Mohammed Hamayel was arrested during the raid in the flashpoint town of Beita.

At dawn on Monday, Israeli troops also stormed Ramallah City, sparking clashes with Palestinians.  Two people were detained in a raid on their home in al-Bireh City of the Ramallah and al-Bireh Province and another one was arrested in Silwad Town in the same province.

Similar raids were also reported in the city of al-Khalil (Hebron) and Tulkarm refugee camp which saw three people arrested.  In Jenin Province, Israeli troops stormed Qabatiya Town and arrested two former prisoners, Taisir Zakraneh and Wessam Abu al-Rub.

Israeli forces also arrested a former prisoner identified as Musa Khalifa in Bethlehem after storming his home in search of his son.  Two other Palestinians were arrested in the city of Arhia.

The Israeli military frequently carries out wide-ranging arrest campaigns across the West Bank under the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians.

Thousands of Palestinians are held in Israeli jails.  Hundreds have been incarcerated under the practice of administrative detention, which allows holding Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons without trial or charge.

Some Palestinian prisoners have even been held in administrative detention for up to eleven years.
