La Paz, October 7 (RHC)-- The Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party of Bolivia declared a state of emergency on Thursday due to right-wing plans to discredit and attack its leaders and the conspiracy against the government of President Luis Arce.
"In view of the actions of rearticulation of the right-wing coup and anti-democratic actors that to this day continue with impunity conspiring against the democratically elected Government, we declare a state of emergency for the defense of the homeland," states a resolution of the National Assembly of MAS.
According to the final minutes of the party meeting held in Cochabamba, there is a "Black Plan" operated by the Bolivian right wing and orchestrated from abroad to even attempt against the life of the president of the movement, Evo Morales. Consequently, they demand guarantees and security measures from the national government.
Through the communiqué they also invite President Luis Arce and Vice President David Choquehuanca to a meeting with MAS and the Unity Pact, integrated by social sectors, to discuss internal issues and establish a common political guideline in the face of right-wing actions.
In the document they also requested the dismissal of the Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, and the Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, "for their clear counterrevolutionary positions." On the other hand, they demanded the suspension of the president of the Administradora Boliviana de Carreteras, Henry Nina, for alleged corruption.
While the assembly was taking place, the governor of Santa Cruz, Fernando Camacho, led an indefinite strike in rejection of dialogue.
