Communist leader urges the left to govern in France

Havana, April 7 (RHC) - The national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, considered this Friday at the installation of the 39th congress of the organization that the left should have the priority goal of governing the country.

“We want to conquer power; the left must set itself the ambition to win. We do not pretend to be the champions of the opposition, but to govern”, he stated at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille, where the conclave will be in session until Monday.

The deputy and former presidential candidate insisted on the objective of governing and doing it for the people, by the people and together with them. According to the leader, who is running for re-election in Congress, it is urgent to marginalize sectarianism and fear of debate, for the sake of unity against the extreme right.

“Some create controversies that have no space when the extreme right is at the gates of power”, Roussel warned at the forum, in which the French communists will define work strategies for the next three years and elect their leadership.

In his inaugural speech, the PCF national secretary highlighted the independence of the organization and its openness to those who want to join a project that he defines as "happy hours", alluding to the goal of changing the country.

The communists advocate strengthening the party in the face of challenges derived from the deep crisis of capitalism, among which they cite the economy, ecology, food, health and social progress.

For the PCF, which will be 103 years old in December, France needs popular and effective projections, based on principles and values ranging from commitment to the working class and democracy to gender equity and fraternity.

In the context of its 39th congress, he also warned about the militarization of international relations, imperialist confrontations and the warmongering of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a panorama that he denounces as representing the danger of a world conflagration.
