Brasillia, January 28 (RHC)-- The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) held this Saturday a ceremony at the Florestan Fernandes National School, in Guararema, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its foundation, a date that was commemorated last Monday, but whose central acts took place this day.

The Brazilian Minister of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Silvio Almeida, who was present at the event, pointed out that the movement "understands that we cannot fall into the illusion of separating knowledge from practice".

"We are holding this celebration inside a school. There is no revolution without science. The MST has been developing a human rights policy for a long time," he added.

In turn, the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Paulo Teixeira, indicated that the MST works with and for the poorest in the struggle for agrarian reform and food production while highlighting its importance as a model in this regard.

The leader of the MST, Jaime Amorim, stressed that, although the right wing and the media "call us invaders, in reality it is quite the opposite. Those who always invade are the large estates".
