Pretoria, February 1 (RHC)-- South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor says a recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) means all countries have an obligation to stop aiding Israel in its brutal military campaign in Gaza.

Pandor said on Wednesday that ICJ’s last week ruling on a genocide case against Israel brought by South Africa “makes it clear that it is plausible that genocide is taking place against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”  “This necessarily imposes an obligation on all states to cease funding and facilitating Israel's military actions,” she said.

The World Court did not determine whether or not Israel is guilty of genocide, but it ordered the Israeli regime to take all measures to prevent its troops from committing acts of genocide in Gaza and to improve the humanitarian situation of Palestinians in the territory.

The ruling has been regarded as a defeat for Israel and its supporters in a war that has killed nearly 27,000 people in Gaza since early October.  The Israeli regime has fiercely criticized South Africa for lodging the complaint in the ICJ as the case could lead to convictions for regime’s leaders if the court rules that genocide has actually taken place in Gaza.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, said on Wednesday that the Israeli regime has been spreading fake news and lies about the African country to fight back against the ICJ case.

Vincent Magwenya said, however, that the move would not deter South Africa from working for freedom of Palestine.  “We are expecting more, but none of it will deter South Africa from the pursuit of seeing a free Palestine, free from occupation and genocidal attacks,” said Magwenya in a post on the X.
