Ramallah, June 24 (RHC)-- Israeli forces have arrested dozens of Palestinians during a series of raids across the occupied West Bank, despite the fact that the occupying regime’s army lately had to cancel some 20 arrest operations due to its already overcrowded prisons.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing witnesses requesting anonymity, reported on Monday that Israeli troops stormed the town of Silwad, located northeast of Ramallah, forced their way into several houses, and rounded up 29 people.

Israeli troopers also raided Kafr Ni’ma town, located 13 kilometers (8 miles) northwest of Ramallah, and abducted another 30 Palestinians.  This comes as the Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported over the weekend that the regime’s military and the so-called internal security service, Shin Bet, were forced to cancel about 20 arrest campaigns due to a lack of space in prisons.

“Due to worsening conditions in detention facilities, prison officials are compelled to assess the risks posed by detainees,” the broadcaster said.  Israeli officials caution that the shortage of space in detention centers and prisons may result in further cancellations of arrests in the West Bank, it added.

Since Israel unleashed a war on the besieged Gaza Strip in early October 2023, casualties have been rising in the West Bank as a result of intensified near-daily Israeli raids into villages and cities in the occupied territories.

At least 547 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or extremist Jewish settlers since the war began. Over 9,300 Palestinians have been detained as well.

More than 37,598 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have also been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip over the past eight months during the regime’s genocidal war.
