Brasilia, December 3 (RHC)-- In Brazil, the Congress has opened impeachment proceedings against President Dilma Rousseff amid a growing corruption scandal that has rocked the government. The impeachment proceedings, which are the first in Brazil since 1992, were brought by House Speaker Eduardo Cunha, who faces his own corruption charges related to a million-dollar bribery scheme involving the state-run oil company Petrobras. The Brazilian president spoke to the nation on Wednesday evening, saying she was confident in the democratic institutions of the government, had committed no wrongdoing and therefore had nothing to hide.
