Havana, December 7 (RHC)-- Officials delegations from Cuba and the United Sates met Wednesday in Havana for the fifth meeting of the Bilateral Commission.

The Cuban delegation to the talks is led by Josefina Vidal, Director General for US Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, while the US delegation is led by Mari Carmen Aponte, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs.

During Wednesday's meeting, the sides reviewed fulfillment of the agreements adopted during the previous such meeting, held on September 30th in Washington. The two delegations also analyzed the results thus far of the Bilateral Commission, which was created in August 2015, as a mechanism to advance ties, following the re-establishment of U.S.-Cuba diplomatic relations.

The meeting also defined actions to be carried out in coming weeks to advance relations, including high-level visits, new cooperation agreements in areas of common interest, technical meetings and dialogues on issues of bilateral interest.

The Cuban delegation insisted on the lifting of the U.S. blockade, the return of the territory illegally occupied by the Naval Base at Guantanamo and the elimination of subversive radio and TV broadcasts into Cuba as essential toward fully normalized relations between the United States and Cuba.
