Havana, November 16 (RHC)—The provincial Assembly of People´s Power in Havana held a solemn session Saturday to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Cuban capital.
Army General, Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and other top authorities of the national government attended the ceremony which took place at the García Lorca Hall of the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater.
In delivering the key-note address, the president of the provincial government, Reynaldo Garcia, acknowledged those who spared no efforts to complete the numerous actions undertaken to bring the best of the city on its anniversary.
A special moment of the ceremony was a special recognition conferred to the intellectual, researcher, Eusebio Leal, Historian of the City, for his life-long commitment to the recovery and preservation of the city, and his tireless work in defense of the island’s historical heritage.
In introducing his merits, the Assembly Secretary thanked Leal for teaching the city to overcome fears, to heal wounds and put next to the old stone the symbol of the future.
